Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (red or green) Pick your favorite!
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon works)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar For sweetness
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns For carrying all that delightful filling
Optional Toppings
  • shredded cheese
  • pickles
  • coleslaw Because variety is the spice of life!

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil and toss in your diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they're tender and fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Once the meat is browned, add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together and let it simmer on low heat for about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Slice your buns and toast them in the oven or on a skillet.
  5. Spoon the meat mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, add your desired toppings, and crown it with the top half.

Notes

Swap out the ground beef for pulled pork or jackfruit for a vegetarian version. For an extra kick, add chili powder or hot sauce. This dish is great for meal prep—make a double batch and freeze.
