Ingredients
  

For the Bolognese Sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option) Use turkey for a lighter dish.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, diced
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian version)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For the Pasta and Serving
  • 8 ounces spaghetti Whole wheat or gluten-free, if preferred.
  • to taste Grated Parmesan cheese Optional, but highly recommended!

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, drizzle the olive oil.
  2. Add the finely chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the veggies are tender.
Cooking
  1. Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet and brown for about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, broth, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer and let bubble for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. In a separate pot, boil water and cook the spaghetti according to package directions.
  5. Drain the spaghetti and toss it with the bolognese sauce until well coated.
Serving
  1. Plate the spaghetti bolognese, sprinkle with grated Parmesan, and enjoy!

Notes

This dish tastes even better the next day. Add chopped bell peppers or zucchini for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
