Method
Marinate the Chicken
- In a large bowl, soak the chicken thighs in buttermilk, covering them completely. Marinate for at least an hour or overnight for best results.
Prepare the Hot Sauce Mix
- In a small saucepan, combine the hot sauce, butter, and honey over medium heat, stirring until the butter is melted and the mixture is well combined. Set aside.
Coat the Chicken
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Coat each chicken thigh in the flour mixture.
Fry the Chicken
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken and fry until each side is golden brown and crispy, about 6-7 minutes per side.
Combine and Serve
- Once cooked, toss the chicken in the hot sauce mix until coated. Slice your hoagie rolls, add the chicken, and top with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles.
Notes
You can adjust the spice level by using less cayenne or a milder hot sauce. For extra crunch, consider adding fried coleslaw on top of the chicken.
