  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ea egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Decoration Ingredients
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for decoration
  • edible black decorating gel for spooky skeleton details

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set this bowl aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  6. Roll small spoonfuls of dough into balls and flatten them slightly into shapes that resemble skeleton parts.
Baking
  1. Place the cookies on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for about 10-12 minutes, until lightly golden but still soft in the center.
  2. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Decoration
  1. Once the cookies are completely cool, mix powdered sugar with a little water to create a glaze a drizzle on top for a skeleton effect.
  2. Use the edible black decorating gel to add skeleton details.

Notes

These cookies store well in an airtight container. You can add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for variation. Get creative with other themed decorations like candy eyes or chocolate chips.
