Ingredients

For the Cabbage Rolls
  • 1 medium head cabbage Make sure the leaves are pliable.
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey.
  • 1 cup cooked rice Use either white or brown rice.
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar Adds sweetness to balance the flavors.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or dill) for garnish Optional for added flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and place it in the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes to soften the leaves. Once softened, remove and let cool.
Make the Filling
  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well with your hands.
Assemble the Rolls
  1. Peel off the cooled cabbage leaves. Place a heaping tablespoon of filling at the bottom of each leaf and roll it tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
Prepare the Sauce
  1. In a separate bowl, mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and brown sugar. This will add sweetness to the dish.
Bake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the sauce mixture. Place cabbage rolls seam-side down and pour the remaining sauce over them. Cover with foil and bake for 45-60 minutes.
