Preparation
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and egg. Whisk until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Knead the dough gently on a floured surface for about 1 minute until smooth.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick, then cut out doughnuts using a cookie cutter.
Cooking
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully place a few doughnuts at a time into the hot oil, frying until golden brown (about 1-2 minutes).
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and let them drain on paper towels.
- If desired, toss warm doughnuts in powdered sugar or glaze immediately.
