  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk Can substitute with almond milk or buttermilk.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Frying

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in milk and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until you have a smooth batter, thick but pourable.
Cooking
  1. Heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat in a deep frying pan.
  2. Drop a small spoonful of batter into the oil to test if it bubbles and rises.
  3. Using a funnel or a ziplock bag, drizzle the batter into the hot oil in a random pattern.
  4. Fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  5. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
