Ingredients

Sandwich Components
  • 4 slices thick-cut bread Brioche or Challah works wonderfully
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices turkey or chicken
  • 4 slices ham
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter or more, because who can resist?
For Serving
  • to taste powdered sugar for dusting, if you’re feeling fancy
  • to taste maple syrup to drizzle

Method

Preparation
  1. Grab two slices of bread and layer two slices of Swiss cheese on each. Follow that up with the turkey and ham, then crown it with the remaining cheese and the final two slices of bread.
Mix Egg Mixture
  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Dunk each sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure they’re well-coated. Cook them in your skillet for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they’re golden brown and oozing with cheesy goodness.
Serve
  1. Once cooked, carefully remove the sandwiches and dust them with powdered sugar. Serve with a side of maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

Letting the bread soak in the egg mixture is key for optimal flavor. Experiment with different types of cheese for unique flavors. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for a quick reheat.
