Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup whole milk Can substitute with skim, almond, or soy milk.
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Frying
  • Oil for frying Use fresh oil for best flavor.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting Dust liberally before serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
Frying
  1. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F.
  2. Drop small balls of dough into the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  3. Use a slotted spoon to remove the beignets and let them drain on a paper towel.
  4. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Serving
  1. Serve warm and enjoy with coffee or hot chocolate.

Notes

For best results, use fresh oil for frying and don’t skip the powdered sugar dusting.
