Ingredients
Method
Activation
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes or until frothy.
Mixing
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg.
- Stir until all ingredients come together into a dough. Add extra flour if it feels sticky.
Kneading
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Rising
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping
- After rising, punch down the dough, then divide it into golf ball-sized pieces.
- Place the dough balls on a greased baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Serving
- Allow rolls to cool on a wire rack. Brush with melted butter if desired before serving.
Notes
For a flavor twist, add garlic powder or herbs to the dough. Cheese can also be mixed in for cheesy rolls. Store leftovers in an airtight container; they last for a couple of days.
