Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)

Method

Activation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes or until frothy.
Mixing
  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg.
  2. Stir until all ingredients come together into a dough. Add extra flour if it feels sticky.
Kneading
  1. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Rising
  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping
  1. After rising, punch down the dough, then divide it into golf ball-sized pieces.
  2. Place the dough balls on a greased baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Allow rolls to cool on a wire rack. Brush with melted butter if desired before serving.

Notes

For a flavor twist, add garlic powder or herbs to the dough. Cheese can also be mixed in for cheesy rolls. Store leftovers in an airtight container; they last for a couple of days.
