Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 slices slices of rye bread Classic rye flavor is essential.
  • 1 pound sliced corned beef Use the best quality for best taste.
  • 1 cup sauerkraut, drained The zesty hero of the sandwich.
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese Melted Swiss cheese enhances the flavor.
  • ½ cup Russian or Thousand Island dressing Feel free to mix both for variety.
  • Butter, for grilling Essential for a golden-brown crust.

Method

Preparation
  1. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread for grilling.
  2. On the unbuttered side of four slices, layer corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and drizzle with dressing. Top with another slice of rye, buttered side out.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Grill the sandwich for about 4-5 minutes on each side until the cheese melts and the bread is golden brown.
  2. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  3. Once grilled, slice the sandwiches in half and serve with extra dressing.

Notes

For a milder flavor, reduce the sauerkraut. Optional extras like pickles or spicy mustard can add variety. Homemade sandwiches may appear rustic; embrace it!
